Gift M.

Gift is the fifth born in a family of seven children. His father passed away in 2006. He stays with his mother who cares for a majority of her grandchildren (she has lost several of her children due to disease and illness). Elias Makina, EKARI co-founder, started supporting Gift in 2006 after Elias found Gift working in the school cafeteria in order to pay his own school fees. Gift left school in 2009 in order to assist his elderly mother, but went back in 2010 to finish his last year of high school.

With EKARI Foundation’s support, Gift graduated from high school and went on to receive his Grade 2 Certificate in Electrical Engineering from a Malawi trade school 2016! He is currently completing an internship with support from our Apprenticeship Program.
