Laston is the third born in a family of five children. Both parents passed away when he was very young. Laston’s uncle tried to provide for Laston and his siblings over the years by performing manual labor in Mozambique and Malawi, but he was not able to support all five children. Laston received tuition assistance from the local Phalombe Social Welfare Office for a short time until the office ran out of funding.
With support from EKARI Foundation, Laston graduated from high school and went on to receive his diploma in Animal Health from Malawi’s Natural Resources College in 2014! He completed a six month internship with a Malawi NGO, but did not receive permanent employment due to funding cuts. With the help of our Apprenticeship Program, Laston is now employed!
